In 2017, WaPo published an op-ed by former USAID project officer Josh Cohen that touched on the Azov movement: “Ukraine’s ultra-right militias are challenging the government to a showdown.” Five years later, less than two weeks after Russian forces invaded, a team at the Post wrote about the (re-)emergence of Azov as “a controversial defender of Ukraine.”
