The European Commission has published a call for proposals to strengthen the European Fact-Checking Network. A press release (May 27) states that the goal is to create “a more trustworthy and safer online environment for European citizens.”

Thomas Fazi notes that the EU’s proximity to the media and fact-checking organizations undermines its credibility. “When the same institutions that fund ‘anti-disinformation’ initiatives are also actively involved in promoting their own narratives, often through publicly funded propaganda, a clear conflict of interest arises.”
